About Fiddler's Lane

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Parents are a child's first and most important teachers at home. Keeping that in mind, we feel that parents should have the opportunity to participate in their child's first educational experiences at school as well. Children and parents benefit equally from sharing their time and abilities with each other. Whether it is sharing a story together, building a castle from blocks, or visiting a museum, parents can rediscover the world through the eyes of their child. Helping out in the classroom, accompanying their children on field trips, or serving as administrators at our school, parents share in the total cooperative experience of Fiddler's Lane Nursery School.

OUR PROGRAM

We are a not-for-profit cooperative preschool with both morning and afternoon classes for 3 and 4 year-olds (Please click here to learn more how we define cooperative).

No discrimination is made as to race, religion or national origin. Children must be toilet trained prior to starting school.

Your child will have fun and enjoy a pleasant, loving, and secure learning experience while developing skills in the following areas:

~ Social and Emotional ~  through learning to share, take turns, listen and follow directions and rules within a classroom environment, respect feelings and property of others, pick up after themselves, grow in confidence and independence, and work and play together in a spirit of cooperation, kindness, and friendship.

~ Gross motor skills ~  through group games, exercises, rhythm activities and creative movement, large block building, outside/gym play.

~ Fine motor skills ~  through drawing, painting, correct handling of crayons and pencils for coloring and printing, cutting with scissors, handling play dough, and mastering manipulative activities (puzzles, lacing, stacking, stringing beads).

~ Cognitive skills ~  through color and shape activities, counting and number activities, word games, song and poem recall, observation and prediction, and alphabet and letter/sound association.

~ Language skills ~  through songs, rhymes, finger plays, stories, interactive play with peers, group discussions, and show-and-tell.

We follow the North Colonie School District for vacations and school closings. (School begins the week after Labor Day and ends after first week of June.)
